Acorns

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 form Acorn Class and work with Mrs Thorp & Mrs Smith (class teachers) and Mrs Herrington and Miss Morton (GTA).  Below you will find the curriculum overviews for the Acorn class.

As well as following the statutory curriculum for their year group, children in Acorns are encouraged to follow their own lines of inquiry to consolidate their learning in our well-resourced indoor and outdoor provision. This page aims to give you an insight into what the children have been up to in lessons and during their independent learning in our provision.

Children in Reception will access theme work as appropriate to their learning needs and styles, but have plenty of opportunities to access continuous provision to secure their individual development and progress in line with their interests. For more information about the statutory curriculum for Early Years, please click here.

December 2019

Acorns had a busy second half of Autumn term with lots of wonderful Christmas-themed activities and events. The children visited Scarborough Christian Fellowship to learn more about the Nativity story, participated in the school's first Christingle, made salt dough Christmas tree decorations and, finally, performed 'A Midwife Crisis' to a huge audience in church. The children have worked really hard and were rewarded for all their efforts with a Christmas party with a special appearance from Father Christmas himself!

October 2019

We spent the first half term exploring our Belonging topic through exploring our local area and considering what it means to belong to Wykeham and what else belongs here.

Autumn 2 will see us expand our understanding of 'Belonging' as we consider why we celebrate Bonfire Night and begin preparations for the Acorns Nativity!
